Guide · The day
What to do on your anniversary: nine ideas, from free to a whole day.
The day doesn't have to be big. It has to be different from a Tuesday. Here are nine ways to mark the date, sorted by how much time and money you have.
If you have an hour
Redo the first conversation: same place, or the same kind of place, and the question "remember?". Or breakfast bought the night before and served in bed, phones away. A well-used hour beats an expensive dinner.
If you have an evening
Dinner at home with the dish from the first date, or the one you both always order. Then the relationship playlist in chronological order: twenty songs, each with a story. Or a film one of you has never seen and the other loves.
If you have the whole day
A place an hour away that neither of you knows. No plan beyond arriving and walking. Head back before dark and eat on the way. For couples with kids, a whole day without a plan is the rarest gift there is.
If you have zero money
A handwritten letter about one specific day. A walk through the neighbourhood where you used to live. The photos on your phone, chosen together, thirty favourites with one line each. None of it costs, all of it lasts.
If you want something new
A class in something neither of you can do: pottery, dancing, Thai cooking. Failing together is the point. Book the date; "someday" doesn't count.
If you want something that lasts
Close the day by making your story: three to six photos, two answers, and Amevoli composes a painted portrait, a short film with music and a poster with your names and the year it started. You can do it together on the sofa, in five minutes. The free part already stays; the full timeline costs $7.99, once, and grows every anniversary.
If you're far apart
Same film, same time, call open. Dinner ordered to the other one's address. A link with your story sent at midnight in their time zone. Distance changes the logistics, not the day.
If one of you forgot
Don't turn it into a fight. Redo the day at the weekend, with more care than you'd have had. The anniversary is the date; the celebration is whenever you decide.
How to close the day
One line. Said, written or on the poster: a scene of the two of you and what it means today. It's the part of the day that outlives the day.

- Do one good hour on Tuesday and the whole day on Saturday. Two small celebrations beat one big tired one.
